just wash the bite with soap and water. If it starts looking weird tomorrow, go to a walk in clinic, it will probably be less expensive if you need anything. You will know, because it will look all infected.

If the cat was foaming at the mouth or acting SUPER crazy I would definitely get checked out. Maybe try going to a clinic somewhere, I’m out in Cali and we have places like First Care where you pay a fee and a doctor will see you (normally around $100). If it worries you then I would definitely see a doctor no matter what your financial or insurance position is. It will be 10x more expensive if something is seriously wrong with you. It is better to have it checked out as soon as possible rather than later and be too late.

Go to the ER or walk in clinic as soon as possible. The longer you wait, the more expensive your situation is going to be. My boss ended up being admitted to the hospital with IV antibiotics followed by surgery and time off work due to an infected cat bite wound. Cat bites are extremely dangerous so the sooner you start treatment, the better. Get there NOW.

Here’s the thing.
You can’t test for Rabies without a doctor.
The only two tests for Rabies are the Direct fluorescent antibody (DFA) test and the Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay.
Both involve non-invasive yet complex procedures.
There is the option of going to a clinic for around $100-200 and they will give you the necessary shots [usually around $150 or so I believe, possibly more]
I wouldn’t be to concerned though. The vast majority of rabies cases are caught from wild animals and not domestic ones. You shouldn’t have a problem.
“Tame (domesticated) animals
In the United States and Canada, dogs, cats, and domestic ferrets usually are vaccinated against rabies. The chance of getting rabies from any of these household pets is very low. If you are bitten by one of these animals and the animal can be confined and observed and shows no signs of rabies for 10 days, you will not need treatment.”
“More than 90% of all animal cases reported annually to CDC now occur in wildlife…”
Hope this helps.

The cat should be observed for at least 10 days just like if you had been bitten by a dog. Any animal bite should be reported immediately to authorities. If the animal takes off or cannot be contained by your local animal shelter sorry, but rabies shots should definitely be given.

Rabies is your real concern. There’s no one test that can be done on you to determine that you have rabies. The animal, can be caught and killed. Is that an option? Otherwise, you are looking at around $1500 USD for a vaccination; I’d pay it if I had to. Rabies kills, but it almost always makes people yearn for death before death actually occurs.
Think: was the cat enraged, without reason? No kittens around? Was it in broad daylight?
I’m uninsured, I’d wait for fever, lethargy, or aches to hit me. If it did, I’d pay the money for treatment right away.
